Susan Scutti
the energy it takes to arrive at disdain is not worth a father, said
the man chewing Bazooka gum
cheek bulge of pink rubber that inevitably winds up stuck
to the bottom of a sneaker
banana seats and jacks and hopscotch rhymes
childhood is meant to provide solace in middle-age
when you recognize your unswerving path
as individual as the snowflake you once pondered
frozen crystals descending to earth
chemical equation same as the greatest part of you
meant to seek your level
meant to find your own, your home
your dome of certainty in a chaos
of memories
that occur not as internal movies but as feelings
you are bound to heart more than reason
approaching the limit of soul
Really enjoyed this beautiful poem, Susan. Especially loved
“frozen crystals descending to earth
chemical equation same as the greatest part of you”
Will remember this line when the snow falls.
Quite fine use of the technique within this poem.
