Caged Eagle

Show me the way home.
My aerie is for faeries now
Like you and me.  See?
Birthdays and deathdays
Both occasion silences
Which like and unlike trances
Stay or go.  A flurry
Of worry arrives to depart.
Let it go.  It knows the way out
As it learned its way in.
The two are nearly the same
Or seem so for now.
Ask for nothing
And it becomes you
Each and every time.
Acknowledge the interruptions of silence.
Imagination is more important than knowledge
Some say.  Some days.
Like sleep, incomprehensible and vast,
It goes fast.  The heart eats.
Moments pile up
As they wind down.
Break the lines
Before they do the same to you.
Difficulty and ease
Squeeze across the same
Landscape of sky.

Written while listening to a concert of John Cage’s music for string quartet played by the Flux Quartet
