Tom Savage
Rockefeller, that old
Robber baron
Treated his horses well
But not his workers,
Amassed a lot of art,
Including commissioned Picassos.
His children, born to wealth,
Were responsible for this.
A day after visiting his home
The exhaustion recedes
From tramping up and down stairs.
Old Rockefeller or JDR,
As they call him there, now,
The first billionaire,
The beginner of global warming
Left behind his contract
Contact with air long ago.
We wandered his beautiful ruins
And enjoyed his art.
Still, he was an old fart
Who did much harm.
That his farm of treasures remains
Alters this part
But not much.
Rockefeller’s estate is called Kylkuit, a Dutch word meaning “lookout” or “the highest point of land
Rather an approach-avoidance kind of emotion about him it seems.
